President Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. married influencer and model Bettina Anderson on Thursday, just over five months after announcing their engagement.
The two married in West Palm Beach, Fla., according to Palm Beach County marriage records. Real estate attorney Brad McPherson, who has worked with the Trump family, was the officiant at the wedding.
The newlyweds are expected to go to a private island in the Bahamas for a larger wedding celebration.
The president previously said he would not attend his son’s wedding due to government business “and my love for the United States of America.” He noted, however, that he “very much wanted to” attend the wedding.
“I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time,” he said. “Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”
He also previously cited the war in Iran as a reason why he was not likely going to attend.
“He’d like me to go, but it’s going to be just a small, little private affair, and I’m going to try and make it,” he said Thursday. “I’m in the midst — I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me, I have a thing called Iran and other things.’”
Trump had also intended to go to his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., after campaigning for Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) on Friday, but changed his plans and will be in Washington this weekend.
Trump Jr. announced his engagement to Anderson in December. He was previously married to Vanessa Trump, and the two had five children, including Kai Trump, who is an avid golfer like her grandfather. Trump Jr. was also previously engaged to U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.
