The Yankees are trying to end a three-game losing streak today, coming into Game 2 with a 30-22 record and a 16-9 home mark. After starting May with six wins in their first seven games, they have since won just four, including a four-game losing streak, which New York will try to avoid again today. Tampa Bay is also looking to stay undefeated against New York today with a 4-0 season series record. This comes after the Rays swept the Yankees at home over a month ago. This Saturday’s matchup is essentially a coin toss with the Yankees holding the slight -112 advantage at home.

Gerrit Cole’s return from elbow ligament surgery was spoiled by the Rays winning their 16th game in their last 19 matchups. Cole was brilliant after missing all of the 2025 season, going six scoreless innings while only giving up two hits. He was in line for the win until Tampa Bay scored four runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good. New York scored the first run of the game in the fifth inning on a solo shot from Austin Wells. It was the only run that Rays’ starter Nick Martinez gave up in six innings. Shortstop Jose Caballero made an error, though, in the eighth inning that fueled the rally for the Rays. Jonathan Aranda hit an RBI double to tie the game, and it was all downhill from there for the Yankees. New York has now lost 10 of its last 14 games.

The Yankees will try to bounce back by starting Ryan Weathers to tie the series. The lefty is 2-2 with a 3.58 ERA in 50.1 innings pitched. But Tampa’s projected starter is off to an even better start in Drew Rasmussen. The righty is 4-1 with a 3.19 ERA in 48 IP.
