PERU, Ind. (WLFI) – Indiana State Police are investigating a shooting that happened late Sunday night on US 31 near County Road 200 North in Miami County.
Police and Miami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash report around 11 p.m.
When they arrived, they found two people, and one of them had been shot.
Police used K9 units, drones, and a helicopter to search nearby woods for other people who reportedly ran from the scene. No one else was found, but police did find and secure a gun.
Investigators determined the gunshot came from inside the car.
At the scene, police arrested Jadyn E. Watts, 19, of Niles, Michigan. Watts was found with a narcotic drug and faces a Level 6 felony charge.
He was taken to the Miami County Jail.
The person who was shot was taken to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
The investigation is ongoing.
