ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department said a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle on Friday morning.

The incident happened near the intersection of 9th Avenue North and 25th Street North at around 9:50 a.m. The location provided by SPPD is close to St. Petersburg High School, but it’s unknown if the teen is a student there.

Police said a Honda Accord was traveling east on 9th Avenue North when the driver hit the teen, who was walking in a marked crosswalk. SPPD also said the victim had activated the crosswalk lights before he crossed the street.
The driver who hit the boy remained on scene, SPPD said. No additional information was provided about the vehicle they were driving or the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The teen was taken to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of around 1:45 p.m. on Friday.
The police department has not identified the driver.
