Saturday night’s loss was credited to Freddy Peralta, dropping him to 3-4 on the year following seven innings in which he gave up eight hits and four earned runs while striking out nine batters. The Mets were led offensively by Mark Vientos who went 2-for-3 with one RBI after hitting a single in the top of the ninth to bring home Tyrone Taylor. The Marlins’ pitching staff was able to hold New York to just three hits on Saturday which is a problem that will need to be fixed immediately if the team wants any chance of a spot in the playoffs even if it is months away.
Max Meyer improved to 5-0 on the season for Miami, pitching for seven innings and striking out eight batters. Miami finished the game with eight total hits, led by Liam Hicks who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hicks hit a solo shot to right center in the bottom of the third, his 10th of the season, and followed with his 11th homer in the bottom of the fifth. Owen Caissie opened the scoring with his seventh double of the season to bring home Jakob Marsee and Connor Norby.
