The sound of thunder in Jacksonville today wasn’t just coming from the stormy skies.

Dozens of motorcyclists weathered heavy downpours for the annual Rolling Thunder ride for freedom, proving not even a rainstorm could dampen their mission of remembrance.

The roar of engines drowned out the sound of rain in Jacksonville Sunday as the Rolling Thunder hosted its annual Ride for Freedom, and the riders refused to let a little or even a lot of rain, stop them.

I’m riding and I’m leading it I got a rain jacket, I’ll put it on and it’ll probably stop the rain from coming down.

Organizers Paul Levesque, State liaison for Rolling Thunder Inc. NC, say this nationwide Memorial Day tradition not only aims to keep a spotlight on those who fought for our country but for the ones who remain unaccounted for.

“It’s not about cookouts, it’s not about celebration, it’s about remembering our fallen. They’re either in cemeteries or they haven’t come home. So, we don’t want to forget them.”

And for the riders and spectators who lined the slick streets, including Veteran, Floyd Baker the wet weather was simply a minor inconvenience compared to the sacrifice being honored.

We still don’t let these things slow us down. Whenever you’re in the military, your mission goes on regardless of weather or conditions. You don’t let things get in your way.
