BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A reckless ‘super speeder’ on I-95 was forced to trade his Miami vacation plans for an unwelcome stay at the Brevard County jail after being caught hurtling down the highway at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office reported that James Caldwell was traveling southbound on I-95 at 101 mph, reaching speeds of 107 mph at one point.
Deputy McLaughlin, who the Sheriff’s Office said was conducting traffic enforcement that day, pulled Caldwell over.
The Sheriff’s Office said that Caldwell claimed he was heading to Miami for a vacation, but that excuse fell short against the law.

“This kind of reckless driving puts everyone at risk,” stated the Sheriff’s Office. “There’s absolutely no reason to travel at such high speeds, especially when it endangers lives. If you can’t control your speed, we’re here to help.”
Unfortunately for Caldwell, his vacation took an unexpected detour as he earned an early check-in at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge instead of his intended Miami getaway.
As the holiday season approaches, authorities are reminding everyone to prioritize safety over speed. “We all want to have fun during the holidays, but let’s make sure we arrive at our destinations alive,” the Sheriff’s Office added.
