PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Flames engulfed a garage in a Port St. Lucie home on Saturday, sparking an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire that prompted nearby evacuations.
The St. Lucie County Fire District said that firefighters responded to a home fire on Saturday afternoon, around 1:56 p.m., in the 1300 block of Oakmont Lane in Port St. Lucie.
When crews arrived, they reported finding heavy flames coming from the garage. They immediately began battling the fire and searching the home for any occupants.
Thankfully, the fire was brought under control, and no injuries were reported.

As a safety measure, officials said that nearby homes were evacuated while the firefighting operations took place.
The American Red Cross was called in to help residents who were displaced by the incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, per officials.
