OXFORD, Ohio – Miami claimed the Mid-American Conference regular-season title Friday with an 8-0 home victory over Longwood. With the win, the RedHawks have captured the top seed for the MAC Tournament in Harrisonburg, Va. Miami improved to 13-4 (8-1 MAC) and secured its ninth-straight regular-season championship. Longwood falls to 4-13 (2-7 MAC) with the result. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:


Scoring began early for Miami as Malena Sabez netted her 20th goal of the year on a penalty corner with assists from Becca Lawn and Berta Mata.
Mata earned her 18th assist of the year as Justina Intzes scored minutes later to make it 2-0.
Less than a minute later, Sloane Wearren scored off an assist by Intzes to make it 3-0.
The second period held scoreless to maintain a 3-0 lead for Miami.
Riley Mazzalupi netted her second goal of the season 20 seconds into the second half to make it 4-0. Wearren assisted.
22 seconds later, Mata found the back of the cage with an assist from Paula Navarro.
Just a minute later, Bet Gifra scored on another assist by Navarro to make it 6-0.
Another penalty corner goal from Sabez with an assist from Mata rounded out a stretch of four goals in four minutes and 14 seconds.
A fourth-quarter goal from Lucia Ventos put the exclamation point on an 8-0 win to clinch the MAC regular-season title.

 
MIAMI GAME NOTES:


Miami took 43 shots (26 on goal) and held the Lancers to three (one on goal).
Miami earned 15 penalty corners and held Longwood to one.
Sabez went 2-for-12 with six shots on goal.
Mazzalupi went 1-for-2.
Mata went 1-for-5 with four shots on goal and three assists.
Gifra went 1-for-7 with five shots on goal.
Navarro had two assists.
Imke Breedijk took two shots.
With her 18th assist of the year, Mata broke the all-time program record for single-season assists set in 2024 by Carlie Servis.
The win marked Miami’s seventh shutout of the season.
