ORLANDO, Fla. —

A federal class action lawsuit was filed earlier this year against a businessman accused of running a Ponzi scheme, and now the United States is seeking all assets purchased with the proceeds of the Goliath Ventures fraud scheme.

>> The video above is previous coverage.

The Justice Department says Christopher Delgado scammed investors out of $328 million through his Orlando company, Goliath Ventures, also known as Gen-Z Ventures.

Delgado was arrested and charged in February.

Federal investigators said the multimillion-dollar Ponzi scheme was run from a downtown Orlando office tower.

Delgado would get people to invest large sums of money, promising them monthly returns from what they called “cryptocurrency liquidity pools,” investigators said.

Delgado could face up to 30 years in federal prison, and as the investigation has progressed, a civil forfeiture complaint was filed against seven real properties and 11 vehicles Delgado allegedly purchased with the proceeds of the fraud scheme.

Federal investigators said Goliath Ventures obtained at least $400 million from more than 1,000 victim investors.

In a news release issued by the United States Attorney’s Office, the funds obtained were primarily used to pay “purported returns to earlier investors, to return principal to investors who requested it, and for Goliath’s extravagant business gatherings, holiday parties, and luxury travel accommodations.”

“Delgado used approximately $17 million in victim investors’ funds to buy five homes and office space,” the release added.
