A rural Jacksonville residence has been ruled a total loss after a fire Monday.

Jacksonville firefighters were called to a structure fire around 6:45 p.m. Monday at 2085 Day Road. Upon arrival, crews found the rear of the building engulfed in flames. Reports from Jacksonville Fire Department indicate part of the house collapsed within minutes of the fire starting.

Firefighters from South Jacksonville and Alexander were called in as mutual aid. Crews spent around three hours at the scene.

No injuries were reported. The occupants — the homeowner, his daughter and two dogs — were able to get out safely.

No cause has been determined.
