TAMPA, Fla. — The new multi-use path on the Howard Frankland Bridge is set to open on Wednesday.
In addition, the new express lanes on the bridge are set to open to drivers later this week, weather permitting.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) confirmed the update to Real-Time Traffic Expert Tim Wronka.

The new multi-use path will provide a nearly 7-mile-long pathway, separated from the roadway for pedestrians and cyclists. There are also several lookout points with benches and shade. The path is expected to open Wednesday morning.
FDOT crews still have to put the finishing touches on road stripes for the new express lanes that will depend on overnight rain. The lanes could open as early as Wednesday morning if the rain holds off. FDOT expects to have the lanes open by the end of the week.
The tolled express lanes will eventually cost drivers $.50. They will be free at first, as FDOT tests the system. They will provide two new lanes in each direction.
The new Howard Frankland Bridge opened in April 2025 to traffic on I-275 southbound. The span of the Howard Frankland Bridge that opened in the 1990s was converted to northbound traffic. The original 1960s bridge was demolished.
