TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida’s new congressional map could stay in place for the 2026 midterms after a Florida judge denied to block it.

The newest congressional map could give Republicans four more seats. That could help Republicans keep control of Congress.

Opponents argue the maps are illegal since they violate Florida’s Fair Districts Amendment.

It’s a constitutional provision adopted by the voters that prohibits partisan gerrymandering.

The judge said the reason he allowed the map for the midterms was to avoid voter confusion.

Map opponents have already promised to appeal the decision to the state supreme court next.
