TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Thousands of Floridians may experience a restoration of life saving HIV medication.
The state’s proposed budget, announced Tuesday, will allocate $75 million to the AIDS Drug Assistance Program, which includes the return of the widely distributed HIV medication, Biktarvy.
The budget will also reverse all cuts made to the program by the Department of Health earlier this year and restore eligibility to 400% of the federal poverty level, according to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

Advocates of the program say, despite the restoration of funds, lack of affordable insurance will cause HIV cases to spread.
“Oh, there is definitely much more work to be done, and in fact, I think the elimination of the premium assistance program will set us back a bit,” Esteban Wood, with the AIDS Health Foundation said.
The Florida Legislature will vote on the budget this Friday.
Funds would be distributed on July1, if the budget passes and is signed into law.
