TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Leon County Sheriff’s Office is dishing out some free meals to help nurses struggling with bills.
Last week, a group of prison nurses at the Leon County Jail said they have not been paid by their company, YesCare, sparking staff shortages and worry as employees scramble to make ends meet.
LCSO Sheriff Walt McNeil said YesCare filed for bankruptcy, sparking a search for a new nurse provider. The sheriff’s office said a majority of the YesCare staff at the jail stayed despite going without pay.
“[The] Leon County Sheriff’s Office was working behind the scenes doing everything they can. And I’ll give YesCare some credit, too. They were trying to coordinate with us, trying to make sure that the employees they had here stayed. And like I said, most of them did, in fact, stay,” he said.
Sheriff McNeil said they have a new provider contract with CFG in the works, and current jail nurses have jobs with them now if they stay.
