TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – All three Tallahassee police deputy chiefs are leaving the agency after taking the city’s voluntary buyout, according to city records obtained by WCTV on Wednesday.
Maurice Holmes, who served 6 years; Jason Laursen, who served 27 years; and Tonja Smith, who served 34 years, report directly to Tallahassee Police Department Chief Lawrence Revell.
The three are among at least a dozen other TPD personnel who are taking the buyout, according to city records.

The “voluntary separation,” announced in April, was offered to employees hired before Jan. 1, 2026, as part of cost-saving efforts.
Those who agree would be paid $20,000 or 12 weeks of pay and would keep health insurance through the end of the calendar year.
The city expected between 100 and 175 employees to take the deal.
The list of employees who have agreed to the buyout tops 150, with departments ranging from parks and recreation to water operations.
