BALTIMORE, MD. (WWSB) – The Rays were looking to return to form on Wednesday night in Baltimore, but ended up on the wrong end of an 11-2 beatdown in Camden Yards.
Tampa Bay had been one of the hottest teams in baseball, winners of 22 of 26 games leading into this past weekend. On Sunday, they fell 2-0 in the Bronx to AL East rival New York, then dropped two-straight to Baltimore on Monday and Tuesday.
The Rays were hoping to avoid the sweep and solidify their hold on the leaderboard in the American League East standings. Unfortunately, this one appeared over after the first inning, when Tampa trailed 5-0.
Blaze Alexander shined for the O’s, collecting 6 RBIs on a single, a double and a homerun – his first as an Oriole.
With Wednesday’s loss, and a Yankee win over the Royals, the Rays lead in the division is down to 1.5 games.
Tampa Bay will look to regroup back home at the Trop when they welcome in the Angels for a three-game series starting on Friday night.
