DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Law enforcement officers are searching for a Gainesville homicide suspect after police said he led officers on a chase into Daytona Beach and ran onto the beach.
Gainesville police said officers were called to a condominium complex around 10 p.m. Tuesday, where they found a 23-year-old woman who later died from her injuries.
Investigators identified 31-year-old Xavion Perry as the suspected gunman.
According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, officers found Perry’s vehicle around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police said Perry led officers on a pursuit before stopping near the Main Street beach approach.
Investigators said Perry then got out of the vehicle, ran onto the pier and jumped down onto the beach.
Police said Perry later went live on social media, showing a gun and making suicidal statements.

The search brought a noticeable police presence to the Daytona Beach Boardwalk on Wednesday, surprising visitors in the area.
“I did see the big truck out here,” one visitor said.
“We got here yesterday and I didn’t notice anything, but on our way down here this evening, I saw some kind of mobile crime unit van,” another visitor said.
Several people said the police activity made them uneasy, especially those visiting with children.
“It’s pretty shocking,” one person said. “I mean, of course I got kids that live right across the street, so it’s like, you want to kind of watch out.”
“That’s kind of scary,” another visitor said. “Especially since I’m here with my kids.”

People along Daytona Beach said they hope Perry is found without anyone else getting hurt.
“Make sure he’s not endangering other people. That’s just the main thing,” one parent said. “There’s kids and stuff out here, so I want the same thing as any other parent for their kid, and it’s just for them to stay safe.”
Authorities have not said where Perry may be now.
