It’s time to say “Bye Bye Bye” to GenX Tavern after 7 years in Downtown Tampa.

Everyone’s favorite 80s and 90s throwback bar and restaurant is packing up its Pac-Man machines and CD collection for good this summer. GenX Tavern’s last day of service will be July 4.

“After 7 totally rad, all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips years, it’s time for us to say peace out to our 80s & 90s era. What a run. From neon nights and throwback jams to packed weekends that felt straight out of MTV, you showed up and showed out every single time,” the restaurant wrote in a post.

Over the years, GenX Tavern has become the neighborhood spot for patrons of all ages, offering “Modern Fare with Retro Flair,” plus music and decor that will transport you right back to MTV’s heyday.

But the good news is, the team behind the tavern isn’t going anywhere. Their plan is to “flip the track” and transform the space into a new concept.

“Same address but a whole new energy. A fresh concept we’re beyond excited to introduce — elevated, exciting, and built for the next era,” the post reads.

It’s not clear what GenX Tavern will be transforming into, but more info is expected soon.

“This place wasn’t just a restaurant — it was a time machine. A ‘meet me there at 8’ spot. We celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, and plenty of ‘no special occasion, just good times’ nights together. And honestly? It’s been da bomb,” the restaurant added. “Stay tuned… the glow-up is coming.”
