Juan Fernandez-Barquin, Esq.
I am proud to announce that Operation Green Light (OGL), which was held from Apr. 6 to Apr. 19, once again has helped thousands of hard-working residents in our community.
OGL saved over $280,000 for residents and customers whose outstanding parking, traffic, misdemeanor, and criminal court fines and fees, had been referred to a collection agency as per Florida Statutes.
Since taking office, my office staff and I have helped residents save more than $1.8 million through Operation Green Light and have established over 184,000 payment plans, providing meaningful pathways for individuals to regain compliance and financial stability.
Operation Green Light is about giving our residents a second chance. By removing financial barriers, providing payment plans and simplifying the process, we are helping individuals get back on the road legally, return to work, and support their families.
During OGL, collection fees are waived on eligible outstanding traffic tickets, parking citations, and court costs fines and fees that had been referred to a collection agency.
Participants whose cases had been referred to a collection agency were able to save up to 30 percent on their overall debt through the waiver of collection fees, resulting in total savings of over $280,000.
I would like to thank my Clerk family, who worked both directly and indirectly to serve our customers. It is because of their dedication that Operation Green Light is such a success year after year. During these challenging economic times, it is our responsibility to ease the burden on residents who want to do the right thing.
Juan Fernandez-Barquin, Esq. is Clerk of the Court and Comptroller of Miami-Dade County.
