Democrats in Northeast Florida are opening campaign accounts for House races ahead of qualifying week, which runs June 8-12.

Some of the new candidacies will create crowded Primaries for seats Democrats are almost certain to win.

Others are bids for more unlikely pickups currently held by Republicans, and likely will lead to closed elections in August and large resource gaps between Democratic insurgents and entrenched GOP incumbents in November.

In House District 11, House Speaker-designate Sam Garrison initially had a speed bump Primary opponent in underfunded Antoinette Harmon. But Democrat Marci Marie White is also running now. Garrison has more than $3.3 million cash on hand between his campaign account and the “Honest Leadership” political committee.

In House District 13, four Democrats are now running to replace departing Democratic Rep. Angie Nixon, including former Senate Democratic Leader Audrey Gibson and former House hopeful Leslie Scott Jean-Bart. Political newcomers Brandon Groover and Christopher Thomas are also in the mix.

This could end up being an open Primary unless a random no-party candidate materializes to close it to Democrats.

Democratic Rep. Kimberly Daniels of House District 14 will face a Primary challenger yet again. This time around, it’s Elgin Foreman Jr. He volunteers with the Northside Coalition of Jacksonville.

In House District 15, Rep. Dean Black has no competition for renomination by Republicans. However, Democratic competition has emerged here too, with Christopher Lloyd “Van” Cima running.

Former House candidate Lloyd Caulker also is in the mix, as is Chadd Charland. Both of them are running as no-party candidates.

In House District 16, Republican Rep. Kiyan Michael’s current Democratic challenger is Eli Johnson.

Two Democrats, Heather Smith and Art Stresing, are seeking to challenge Republican Rep. Kim Kendall in House District 18. Democrats Suzanne Pavelle and Lee Butler are seeking to challenge Republican Reps. Sam Greco and Judson Sapp in House Districts 19 and 20, respectively.
