  • May 30, 2026

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A second suspect has been accused in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Baton Rouge shoe store earlier this month, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant names Malik Latrell Conway in connection with the May 14 shooting outside The Athlete’s Foot on Florida Boulevard near North Foster Drive. Conway is accused of second-degree murder and simple battery, according to court documents.

The victim, 28-year-old Na’Quail Weaver, died after being critically injured in the shooting, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish coroner’s Office.

Police previously said the shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the store’s parking lot. Witnesses told investigators several men were fighting when the gunfire rang out, and the suspected gunman was gone before officers arrived.

According to the arrest warrant, investigators believe Weaver and another person were walking through the parking lot when they were approached by two men in separate vehicles. The warrant states both men got out of their vehicles and chased Weaver before he fell in the parking lot.

Investigators allege Conway was the person who got out of one of the vehicles and battered Weaver. The warrant states another suspect, previously identified as Deandre Selmon, got out of the other vehicle and also battered Weaver while armed with a handgun. During the altercation, the gun discharged, striking Weaver, according to the warrant.

Selmon, 26, previously turned himself in and was booked on an attempted second-degree murder charge after the shooting. Police said at the time that the shooting stemmed from a prior altercation involving the victim and suspect.

The warrant states investigators reviewed surveillance video from nearby businesses and compared it with social media and DMV photos before identifying Conway as the second person involved.

Weaver was initially taken to the hospital in critical condition after the shooting. According to the warrant, he was later removed from life support and declared dead.

This is an ongoing investigation.
