TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The first Tallahassee Regional elimination game between Florida State and Coastal Carolina will have to wait another day to be decided. The teams played five innings and waited through nearly five hours of rain delays before officials made the decision to suspend the rest of the game. Florida State leads 2-1 at the stoppage.
Before the rain interupted play, the game was shaping up to be a pitchers duel.
The starting pitching matchup featured two of the nations best. The first delay promptly ended both their outings.
Seminoles ace Wes Mendes struck out eight and allowed two hits over four innings. Chanticleers starter Cameron Flukey struck out three and allowed two hits over his 3.1 innings of work.
Coastal Carolina took the first lead of the game in the third inning on a Trace Mazon single to left field.
Florida State tied it in the fourth as Nathan Cmyela doubled to score Hunter Carns, just after the game restarted. In the fifth, Cal Fisher launched his third home run of the season on a no-doubter to left field to put the Seminoles up 2-1.
Before the sixth inning could get underway, the second rain delay began. At 8:40 p.m., officials announced the game had been suspended.
The final four innings will be completed on Sunday morning. A time is yet to be announced.
