The deputy is currently on administrative leave without pay from the sheriff’s office as an investigation continues.
CITRUS PARK, Fla. — A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy is facing charges for driving under the influence.
HCSO says 32-year-old Richard Michael Garcia was pulled over by other deputies just after 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Gunn Highway and Normandie Road in Citrus Park.
Officials say Garcia refused to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises or give a breath sample.
Garcia was arrested and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to testing. He is currently on administrative leave without pay from the sheriff’s office as the investigation continues.
Garcia joined HCSO in November 2020 and is assigned to the District I Street Crimes Unit.
