Local dogs got a fresh start at a Sunday adoption event in Jacksonville, hosted by K9s For Warriors, local shelters and PDQ.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — For some local dogs, Sunday was a chance at a fresh start.

K9s For Warriors partnered with the Jacksonville Humane Society, SAFE Animal Shelter and PDQ to host a community adoption event in Bartram Park aimed at helping dogs find their forever homes.

The free event took place at PDQ on Old St. Augustine Road and featured 16 adoptable dogs.

Among them were Bucky, Charmy and Denali — three dogs who had collectively spent nearly a year-and-a-half waiting for permanent homes.

Organizers said many of the dogs available for adoption have training foundations and are ready to join loving families.

PDQ hosted the event as part of its efforts to support local animal welfare organizations and bring attention to pets in need of adoption.

Chloe Doyle, a dog owner herself and a member of the PDQ team, said events like this help connect animals with potential adopters while highlighting the responsibilities that come with pet ownership.

“I think it teaches you patience and responsibility, and I think it’s a good choice to own a dog because it can help you when you’re becoming an adult, or even becoming a child, learn the responsibilities of taking care of another,” Doyle said.

For those who missed Sunday’s event, PDQ said it plans to host more adoption events in the future.
