TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Family Promise of the Big Bend received a $28,000 donation Saturday from the Tallahassee chapter of 100 Women Who Care after members selected the organization as this month’s nonprofit recipient.
Family Promise CEO Nick Maddox said the funding will help address maintenance needs at the organization’s homeless shelter in Tallahassee and purchase new chairs for its veterans facility.
“It’s huge for us,” Maddox said. “We always kind of run in a deficit, especially at Hope, our homeless facility, so for 100 women to think about us and to give us an opportunity to present to them and provide this help to our facility is absolutely amazing.”
100 Women Who Care Founder Virginia Glass said Family Promise was chosen through the group’s nomination and voting process, which allows members to support local nonprofits making an impact in the community.
“You would be amazed to know all the good things they’re doing,” Glass said. “They’re giving people an opportunity to get self-sufficient rather than getting handouts, and that’s so important in building self-esteem and in helping our community.”
Glass said the Tallahassee chapter has donated more than $640,000 to local nonprofits since its founding.
