The Town of Cutler Bay will celebrate Caribbean Heritage Month with a special Food Truck Friday event on June 12 at Cutler Ridge Park. The event takes place from 6 to 10 p.m.
“The event will feature a variety of food trucks, music, entertainment and family-friendly activities celebrating Caribbean culture and heritage,” said Maria Herrera-Mendoza, the town’s Events and Programs manager.
Caribbean Heritage Month is celebrated throughout the month of June, honoring the contributions of Caribbean Americans to U.S. culture and history. This includes those from the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and others that have significantly contributed to American society. Cutler Bay has had special events celebrating Caribbean Heritage Month since 2023.
This observance was established by a presidential proclamation in 2006 after Congress passed resolutions recognizing the importance of Caribbean Americans in U.S. history. Such events may feature iconic dishes such as Jerk Chicken from Jamaica, Conch Ceviche from the Bahamas, and Mofongo from Puerto Rico.
