The FSU Seminoles have won their first elimination game of the weekend. The Seminoles beat Coastal Carolina 2-1 on Sunday to advance in the Tallahassee Regional.
The game started on Saturday, but was suspended and had to be finished on Sunday due to multiple rain delays. Trey Beard closed it out for FSU and was sensational over the final four innings. He struckout nine of the 14 batters he faced, allowing one single and a walk to get the save.
FSU’s offense did just enough to earn the win with Cal Fisher hitting a go-ahead solo home run in the fifth. He went 2-3 with a homer and a double to power the offense.
The day is not over for FSU, which will play the loser of St. John’s and Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. ET on Sunday. The winner of that game will advance to the regional final on Sunday, with the loser going home. Here is how FSU closed out the game against Coastal Carolina to keep their season alive.
The Seminolea are advancing to tonight’s game after beating Coastal Carolina 2-1 in the first elimination game of Sunday. Trey Beaed did not allow a run over the final four innings, striking out nine batters.
FSU fails to add on (FSU 2, Coastal Carolina 1 end 8th)
The Seminoles were once again unable to add on, with Ben Barrett striking out to end the eighth inning and strand Chase Williams at second. FSU has left a runner in scoring position in all three innings since the game resumed.

Trey Beard is in complete control for FSU and already has six strikeouts in three innings of relief for the Seminoles. he has retired nine straight with FSU up 2-1 in an elimination game.

The Seminoles once again had a chance to add to their lead but could not get it done in the seventh inning. Cal Fisher hit a two-out double off the wall to turn the lineup over. John Stuetzer worked a 2-0 count, but grounded out to end the inning and strand Fisher.

Trey Beard has settled in for FSU after the leadoff walk, retiring the next six batters to send FSU to the bottom of the 7th up 2-1. He has struckout four batters.

Brody DeLamielleure started the sixth with a single, but FSU was unable to take advantage. Hunter Carns and Ben Barrett both struckout after lengthy at-bats before Nathan Cmeyla grounded out. FSU is 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
Luke Jones is pitching for Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina is also going to a starting pitcher, turning to sophomore righty Luke Jones. He has a 4.62 ERA in 76 innings pitched.

Trey Beard walked the leadoff batter but settled in after that in the top of the sixth inning. The next batter sacrificed the runner to second before Beard got back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and strand him at third.

The game has restarted, with Trey Beard throwing a ball to Coastal Carolina’s Blake Barthol. There are no outs in the top of the sixth inning, with FSU ahead 2-1.
