ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The St. Petersburg Police Department said a 49-year-old woman is dead after being run over by a city garbage truck on Saturday.

A spokesperson said officers responded to the fatal collision near 17 3rd Street North at around 6:30 a.m.

At the scene, they found the victim lying across an alley, having suffered fatal injuries after being struck by the truck.

SPPD said the driver, a City of St. Petersburg employee, did not stop after hitting her.

He was identified as 51-year-old Nathan Brown and charged with leaving the scene of a crash, the spokesperson said.

The victim will be identified after police locate and inform her next of kin.
