A 26-year-old man died, and two others suffered critical and life-threatening injuries after three cars crashed in St. Pete’s south side.The
St. Petersburg Police Department said it happened Sunday around 1:15 a.m. and that Dy’Jean Roberts, 26, died in the hospital after the crash.
According to officers, it happened near the intersection of 18th Avenue South and 29th Street South.
SPPD officers said that the crash happened when Cleveland Sanders, 43, was driving west on 18th Avenue South. For unknown reasons, his car crossed the median and hit a car going east. Clifford Washington, 27, was driving that car, and Roberts was a passenger in it, according to the police.
After the cars came to a stop following the collision, Terrell Burney, 50, was traveling west on 18th Avenue South. Police said Burney failed to stop and crashed into the front of the car where Washington and Roberts were in.
Following the crash incidents, SPPD stated that Roberts was taken to the Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Pete, where he died due to his injuries. Sanders and Washington were taken to the same hospital with critical injuries, but then they were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Burney was treated and released on scene, SPPD said.
The investigation is still ongoing, police added.
