WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Gas prices across Florida are dropping, with AAA reporting a decrease of 46 cents per gallon in 11 days.

Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group, explained, “We’ve seen oil prices pull back over the past couple of weeks as hopes grow that the U.S. and Iran are nearing an agreement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Since oil accounts for about half the cost of gasoline, this can lead to lower prices at the pump.”

According to AAA, as of Sunday, the state average stands at $4.07 per gallon, bringing some good news to wallets feeling the pinch.

This latest dip means that prices are now:

32 cents lower than last week9 cents lower than last monthYet, still 96 cents higher than a year ago

The decline is largely attributed to optimistic developments in international peace discussions, per AAA.

AAA reported that the U.S. price of crude oil has also taken a downward turn, dropping from $108.66 per barrel to $87.36 recently.
