SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – An off-duty police officer was arrested after driving more than 100 mph on I-75 Sunday morning, the Tampa Police Department said.
Jason Brown was arrested just before 6:30 a.m. May 31 by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on southbound I-75 near Big Bend Road.
Deputies say he was driving in excess of 100 miles per hour and recklessly weaving in and out of travel lanes in his personal vehicle before being stopped.
Hired in 2008, Brown was placed on administrative duty due to an unrelated internal investigation, police said. That investigation remains ongoing, and this new incident will also be reviewed as part of the administrative process.
“Alongside our community, I expect our officers to lead by example, and this conduct falls short of that expectation,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a news release.
