A Jacksonville woman was arrested after being accused of choking and threatening to stab a man with a syringe of insulin.
Police responded at 3:39 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of South Main Street for a report that a woman walked in the back door of the house and confronted a man inside.
“She was chasing him around the kitchen table, waving it at him, according to his statement,” Jacksonville Police Lt. Mark Lonergan said.
Insulin is used to regulate blood sugar in diabetics. If given to someone who is not diabetic, it can cause a dangerous drop in blood sugar, according to the National Institutes of Health.
The woman is accused of grabbing the man by the throat at one point, according to a police report.
Seven officers arrived at the scene and arrested Darcy C. Adams, 48, of Jacksonville on a domestic battery charge, according to a police report.
Adams and the man who reported being attacked have or had a dating relationship, according to Lonergan.
She was taken to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital for evaluation and then booked into the Morgan County Detention Facility at 8:56 p.m. Sunday, according to jail records. She remained in custody Monday morning.

Adams also was arrested on charges of obstructing a peace officer after police said they told her she was being detained and she tried walking away, and on a charge of resisting a peace officer after police said she physically resisted officers’ attempts to place her in handcuffs.
