TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – After losing the first game of the Tallahassee Regional, Florida State fought all the way back to the Regional Final, facing St. John’s for a berth to Super Regionals.
Because of the double elimination format, Florida State would need to beat the Red Storm twice, starting with game one, but the Seminoles couldn’t hit when they needed to, falling 5-4, a loss that ends their season.
Florida State outhit the Red Storm nine to three, but left eight runners on base in the loss.
Cal Fisher put the Seminoles out to an early lead, with a solo homerun in the top of the third inning. Florida State would add another run in the top of the fifth, when Brody DeLamielleure singled to center field, bringing in John Stuetzer to put the Noles up 2-0.
The Red Storm opened up the bottom of the fifth with a walk. A single and another walk loaded the bases, and then Adam Agresti took advantage of the loaded bases, blasting one over the center field wall for the grand slam, giving St, John’s the 4-2 lead.
St. John’s added another run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a wild pitch. A late Florida State rally in the ninth fell just short. Fisher hit a two run homerun, his second long ball of the day, to get the Seminoles within one, but DeLamielleure struck out looking for the third out.
Florida State ends the year 40-19.
