Jameis Winston came in to the National Football League with much fanfare, as the #1 overall pick, out of Florida State, in the 2025 draft. He made the Pro Bowl and won the rookie of the year award that season. In 2019, he led the NFL in passing yards and attempts (but also interceptions as well).

His pro career has been rather pedestrian, for the most part, and he spent last season in the third slot on the Giants quarterback depth chart. This year, he’ll move to the back-up role.

There isn’t all too much about his play, for the most part that’s inspiring. However, what he’s had to say lately, about issues that are much bigger than football, is truly inspiring.

The NFL offseason news cycle was more than ready to move on from Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini (I think we all got more than our fill of that story), and it was Giants QB Jaxson Dart who made that happen. When he introduced the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, at a recent campaign event, it ignited a firestorm of controversy.

Giants defensive end Abdul Carter spoke out about the decision that Dart made, and the “divided locker room?” narrative was born.

Winston is reportedly among the group of Giants leaders attempting to stave off internal division with Yahoo Sports reporting that he “addressed the locker room and helped guide the discussion” on all the issues surrounding the Dart-Carter clash.

And that’s behind the scenes. Here’s what he said, publicly, about making a call for unity.

“Everything doesn’t have to be viewed in this perfect little snow globe, and everything doesn’t have to be perfect. But we have to support each other. We have to promote love, because love is a stronger feeling than hate.”

This World Cup, on our American soil, thus far has been defined by price gouging and the exploitative practices of late stage capitalism. Once the games actually start, however, we’ll see exactly what Winston is talking about. “The beautiful game,” as it is called, will unite people across all cultures and nations, even if the cost to get inside the stadiums is so egregiously overpriced that it insults your common sense.

Winston, who will serve as special digital and cultural correspondent for FOX during the World Cup, provided a powerful message, about issues that go far beyond the gridiron.

It won’t be long until his playing days come to an end. And when they do, what he does next with his public persona, whatever that may be in his media career, is going to be amazing.
