An Oviedo woman was recently injured during her nightly walk when two teens shot gel-blaster pellets from a moving car, according to police.Taryn M., a Seminole County resident, said she and her husband were walking along Red Bug Lake Road around 8:20 p.m. on May 18 near the YMCA when they heard what sounded like “automatic gunfire.” “We both quickly looked to see what it was and where it was coming from,” Taryn M. said. “We saw the dark car with the green windows. I saw a red barrel of a gun sticking out of the passenger window when someone kind of crouched down with dark hair. We almost saw them laughing.”Police identified the suspects as a 16-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger, Bryant Otero Villegas.They allegedly shot at Taryn M. with an X-Shot gel blaster, a plastic gun that fires hard gel projectiles, Orbeez, at a velocity of 200 feet per second. “I grabbed my left shoulder and my side because I felt a burning, stinging,” Taryn M. said. Two days later, another woman was targeted on State Road 434 near Charles Street and Bennett Street in Winter Springs. According to the arrest report, the victim “felt several sharp pains in the back of her neck” and thought she had been shot with a pellet gun after hearing rapid firing. Police tracked down the suspects’ car at Winter Springs High School, where investigators recovered an X-Shot gel blaster rifle-style gun and projectiles linked to the shootings. Authorities said both suspects confessed to the shootings.Taryn M. shared her advice for the teens involved: “You could lose your life over something so dumb.”She added that her husband initially considered the possibility of returning fire. “My husband did actually consider the fact that I got shot,” she said. “We didn’t know what it was at first, and he could have returned fire.”
