The 10th-ranked Miami Hurricanes (5-1) hit the road to face the SMU Mustangs (5-3) in a potential elimination game in the Atlantic Coast Conference race as they face off for the first time in 60 years.

Miami bounced back from its first loss, shaking off a slow start last week to pull away from visiting Stanford in a 42-7 romp. Mark Fletcher Jr. ran for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 9:34 left in the third quarter, finishing with 106 yards on 23 carries. Carson Beck completed 21-of-28 passes for 189 yards and a TD to CJ Daniels while Jordan Lyle and Girard Pringle Jr. ran for touchdowns. The defense forced two fumbles in the victory.
SMU took its first ACC loss last week, falling at Wake Forest 13-12 on a 50-yard field goal on the game’s final play. Shaadie Clayton-Johnson scored the Mustangs’ lone touchdown with 2:58 left in the third quarter to give SMU a 12-10 lead, but a blocked extra point proved costly. The game featured eight turnovers, three by the Mustangs, who got interceptions from Isaiah Nwokobia and Ahmaad Moses as well as two sacks by Terry Webb.
The only other meeting between the teams came on Sept. 18, 1965, in Dallas, when SMU picked up a 7-3 victory. The Mustangs are 3-1 in the ACC entering the game, while the Hurricanes are 2-1.
