SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Crews have put out a fire that broke out in the rear of a home in Southwest Miami-Dade.
7Skyforce hovered above firefighters as they hosed down the backyard pool area at the house located along the 1800 block of Southwest 82nd Court, east of the Palmetto Expressway, at around noon on Tuesday.
About 50 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived at the one-story, single family home to encounter heavy smoke and flames billowing from the residence.
The solar panels lining the property caught fire, as well as the fences around the perimeter.
Neighbors said an elderly woman and her dog were inside the home at the time of the fire but were able to escape safely.
Area residents said they knew something wasn’t right when they smelled smoke.
“I was doing household chores and I smelled the fire,” said resident Tabassum Alam.
Several of them called 911.
“Large black smoke receiving multiple calls. Smoke coming from a single family resident,” said a dispatcher.
Firefighters were able to knock down the flames.
“The fire was attacked from multiple angles. The fire was finally extinguished. At this point, there is no reported injuries. All of the occupants were out of the structure and at this point the fire is under investigation,” said MDFR Chief Fire Officer Jeff Suarez.
7Skyforce showed significant damage to the rear of the home along with some smoke damage throughout left behind by the fire. But residents are thankful nobody was hurt.
“That’s a great thing! Everybody is safe, lives are safe. Things can come and go but lives are safe,” said Alam.
Officials have called a fire inspector, as they attempt to determine what sparked this fire.
