TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez was nominated to be the next ambassador to Brazil by President Donald Trump.
Perez, who is term-limited and set to leave the House in November, was elected to the Florida House in 2017.
He formerly served as the Chair of the Rules Committee, Judiciary Committee, Pandemic and Public Emergencies Committee and Public Integrity and Elections Committee, according to his website.
Born in New York, Perez and his family moved to Florida in 1993.
Last year, Trump administration officials urged Perez to run for Florida Attorney General, which he declined to do.
Several others from Florida are among the nominations, including former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Johnson-Carrol, who was tapped to be ambassador to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The nominations have to be confirmed by the Senate.
