Cape Coral laces up for South Cape’s Global Running Day 5K
On Wednesday morning, Jason Drew went “Gulfcoasting” in Cape Coral to spotlight the excitement surrounding the South Cape Run Club’s second annual Global Running Day 5K, a free community event celebrating movement, connection and wellness. Ahead of Wednesday night’s festivities, Drew met up with Ariana Murillo of the South Cape Run Club, who shared how the event has grown into a welcoming space for people of all ages and fitness levels.
Taking place Wednesday evening at Optimal Wellness, the Global Running Day 5K is not a competitive race — it’s a community 5K designed for everyone. Participants can run, jog, walk or simply enjoy the atmosphere as South Cape comes together to celebrate health and local pride.
Wednesday night’s event features a fun 5K route through the South Cape, local food trucks, drinks including 21-plus options, giveaways and music from DJ Savvy. Thanks to the support of local sponsors and vendors, the entire evening is completely free and open to the public.
As Drew saw Wednesday morning, the South Cape Run Club is creating more than a fitness event — it’s building community, encouraging movement and giving neighbors a chance to connect in a meaningful way. On Wednesday night, Cape Coral will lace up and celebrate Global Running Day with energy, inclusivity and plenty of Gulf Coast spirit.
