Jumbo Shrimp spokesperson Scott Kornberg said the fireworks will return on Friday and Saturday after being discontinued due to dry conditions.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Fireworks are making an explosive return to Vystar Ballpark this weekend after a weeks-long hiatus.
Jumbo Shrimp broadcaster and spokesperson Scott Kornberg confirmed that Friday and Saturday night fireworks are back on beginning June 5, during the homestand against the Nashville Sounds.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department announced Wednesday that the burn ban in Duval County has been lifted due to recent rainfall that has reduced the danger of wildfires in the area.
This story continues below.
“Conditions have improved enough in Duval County that lifting the burn ban is the right call,” said Fire Chief Percy Golden II. “We made the decision carefully, in consultation with our partners at the National Weather Service, Florida Forest Service, and Emergency Preparedness Division. The recent rain has helped, and we expect that trend to continue. We know the drought conditions have not disappeared, and JFRD is still paying close attention.”
When the burn ban was issued, the Jumbo Shrimp discontinued all of its weekly fireworks shows.
While the burn ban has been lifted, Jacksonville’s permanent ban on unpermitted open burning remains. Without a permit, small recreational campfires, cooking fires and warming fires are still allowed so long as they do not cause “excessive smoke.”
