A University of South Florida student is suspected of stabbing two people at a Tampa apartment complex early Wednesday, deputies said.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to an apartment complex on North 46th Street shortly before 4:30 a.m. A man reported that he and another person had been stabbed.
“Both victims are currently in stable condition,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The suspect and one of the victims are students at USF, the sheriff’s office said.
“All individuals involved have been identified and accounted for,” the news release states.
The sheriff’s office did not release further information.
In a news release Wednesday afternoon, the University of South Florida Police Department said that the suspect and one of the victims were roommates at an off-campus apartment, and that the other victim is not affiliated with the university.
“There is no ongoing threat to the USF community,” the news release states.
North 46th Street is near Avalon Heights, the student housing complex where prosecutors believe two USF graduate students were stabbed to death in April. Zamil Limon, 27, was found in a trash bag on the north side of the Howard Frankland Bridge on April 24. Nahida Bristy, also 27, was found in the water nearby two days later.
Limon’s roommate, 26-year-old Hisham Abugharbieh, faces two counts of first-degree murder and other charges in connection with the killings. Prosecutors announced last month that they intend to seek the death penalty.
