Cape Coral BMX to send 14 riders to UCI World Championships in Australia

Bradley ShimelCAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral BMX is home to riders who have competed locally, statewide, and nationally, but now, they will be taking their talents to Australia, repping not just Cape Coral but Team USA on their backs.

Cape Coral BMX rider Ivan Valentin said, “It means the world to me. I’ve grown up here my whole life, raced on this track since I was 6 years old. Having a lot of local and family support, I mean, it’s the best thing in the world.”

These 14 riders will be taking part in the UCI BMX World Championships, featuring some of the top riders from across the globe.

And it’s not just kids taking part. One of these lucky riders gets to compete alongside his mom, and Mom has done this twice before, so it’s safe to say that she knows best.

Cape Coral BMX rider and Conner’s Mom, Lisa White, said, “One of his biggest struggles is believing in himself, and his ability and how good he really is, and I just keep telling him that if he believed in himself like how I do, there is no one that can beat him.”

With such a talented group, expectations are pretty high just weeks away from the games.

Cape Coral BMX rider Brandon Unger said, “My expectations are top 20, and the team, with everybody else here in Cape Coral, I think everybody can just make it past the three rounds. It’s just a lot of fun racing for Cape Coral, and I’m proud to represent them in Australia.”

The UCI BMX World Championships are set to take place from July 17-25 in Brisbane, Australia.
