A Florida mom says she and her young daughter ate from a can of SpaghettiOs before discovering live worms moving inside.
OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — A Florida woman is suing Campbell Soup and Walmart after she says she discovered live parasites crawling inside a can of SpaghettiOs — after she and her young daughter had already eaten some of it.
Mary Hubbard filed the federal lawsuit June 2 alongside Gregory Lovell, the father of her minor daughter, identified in court documents only as P.L. The family is from Okeechobee, Fla.
According to the complaint, Hubbard bought the can at a local Walmart in June 2024. On June 6 of that year, she served the SpaghettiOs to herself and her daughter for a meal. It was only after both had eaten portions of the food that she noticed what appeared to be worms actively moving inside the can. She says she filmed the contamination in multiple videos.
Campbell Soup Company, headquartered in Camden, N.J., manufactures and distributes SpaghettiOs.
The lawsuit alleges Campbell and Walmart failed to adequately inspect and test the product for contamination, failed to maintain adequate quality control and food safety measures, and placed an unreasonably dangerous food product into the stream of commerce without warning consumers.
The health consequences described in the lawsuit are serious. Hubbard claims she developed a parasitic infection, sepsis, liver injury and chronic PTSD. She also says she required intravenous iron infusion treatment for anemia. Her daughter allegedly suffered vomiting, diarrhea and a parasitic infection that required prescription medication, along with psychological injuries.
Both are said to still be receiving medical and mental health care.
The lawsuit accuses Campbell Soup and Walmart of negligence, strict liability and selling an adulterated food product in violation of federal food safety law. The family argues the companies failed to properly inspect and test the product before it reached store shelves.
Campbell Soup and Walmart had not responded to requests for comment as of publication.
