Witness describes panic as shots ring out in restaurant parking lot in Cape Coral
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Chilling 911 calls have revealed the chaos that unfolded during a shooting outside a McDonald’s on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral, where gunfire erupted during a fight involving teens in the parking lot.
A woman in the drive-thru line said she saw at least 20 teens when the altercation began. She said a worker told her to call 911, and shortly after, she heard four gunshots.
“The passenger seat was the one firing it,” the woman said during her 911 call.
Jade Sanders, a witness, said she heard the shots. “They were like pop, pop, pop,” Sanders said. “It’s strange because it happened so fast that everything slowed down.”
Although no bullets hit her car, Sanders said the incident left her shaken.
“I screamed to the kids duck, put the car in drive and he pedaled to the metal, like he got us out of there. The first thing that entered my mind was just an image of my kids in a hospital bed with tubes coming out of them,” Sanders said.
She added that she initially thought the teens were “just being kids” when the fight broke out.
Cape Coral police confirmed that no one was injured in the shooting, and the suspect has not been located.
“I’m just glad that none of them got shot as well. Like, because they could have easily, like, have lost their lives,” Sanders said.
