Second suspect arrested in deadly Memorial Day shooting in downtown St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Police announced Wednesday that a second person was arrested in connection with a deadly Memorial Day shooting.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, officers were called to 1st Avenue North and Beach Drive Northeast just before 3 a.m.

Investigators believe Jacob Carreras, 25, and Matthew Williams, 36, got into an argument with Peter-Austin Afentakis, 29.

Both suspects allegedly shot at Afentakis, and he later died of his injuries. A second victim suffered a minor injury, police said.

Carreras was arrested on Tuesday for second -degree murder.

Williams was arrested on Wednesday for second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, aggravated battery with a weapon, and violation of probation.
