JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – We’re getting a look at the aftermath of Wednesday’s fire that destroyed a furniture store in Jacksonville.
The fire at Furniture Plus on North Marine Boulevard yesterday afternoon left a path of destruction after flames erupted in the warehouse and spread into the store.
A look through the store’s broken windows this morning shows piles of broken and charred furniture.

Parts of the building were burned to the ground, with rubble scattered across what was once the floor inside.

WITN drone footage yesterday showed that part of the roof collapsed.

Four aerial trucks were pouring water on the fire, and firefighters were breaking out showroom windows so aerial trucks on Marine Boulevard could drench the store with water.
As of last night, four of the firefighters were treated and released. Another is still under observation, but no other injuries were reported.

Furniture Plus owner Greg Popkin told WITN that thirty employees work at the store. They are now being relocated to other stores.
It’s unclear if and how many employees were at the store and warehouse at the time the fire broke out.
Jacksonville Fire Chief Tee Tallman says crews were out throughout the night monitoring conditions after the fire was brought under control.
Tallman says investigation crews will be out today assessing the damage, and he says they will likely be partnering with the state on the investigation.
