PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Police had a busy Wednesday night in Port St. Lucie, making three separate arrests across the city in unrelated cases.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department announced on Thursday that one of those arrests happened at Walmart, where officers say Jeffery Marriott tried to walk out with 24 items worth more than $249 without paying. Investigators say Marriott even changed into clothes taken from the store before attempting to leave.

Police said he is a registered sex offender and is now being held at the St. Lucie County Jail under Brittany’s Law, which is a Florida law that allows stricter monitoring of certain registered sex offenders, including GPS tracking, especially if they’re arrested or violate conditions, along with theft charges.

In another case, officers pulled over a vehicle after realizing the registered owner had a revoked license. Police say that the driver, Steven Brown, was behind the wheel despite having multiple prior convictions for driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.

The third arrest involved Alexander Harrell, who police say was found intoxicated near a vehicle with the keys within reach. Officers say he refused DUI testing and was also charged with resisting an officer without violence and having an open container. On top of that, they discovered he had an active warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous DUI charge.

Police say that while the cases are not connected, they show how active officers were throughout the night. The department also credited its patrol officers, traffic unit, and retail partners for their ongoing work to keep Port St. Lucie safe.
