TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — A University of South Florida student is believed to be dead after a stabbing incident that left two people injured at an off-campus apartment in Tampa on Wednesday, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to a call about injured victims at the complex, where deputies found two people suffering from stab wounds. Both were taken for treatment. Hours later, officials say the presumed suspect was found dead.
USF police confirmed the suspect and at least one of the victims were students and roommates, suggesting the incident involved people who knew each other.
“All individuals involved have been identified and accounted for, and there is no ongoing threat to the USF community,” the school police chief responded in a statement sent to students and staff.
Neighbors described a frightening scene as law enforcement flooded the area. Resident McKenzie Miller said the violence hit close to home.
I could have walked out of my apartment, and it could have been me, and that’s definitely very scary.”

Another resident said they saw multiple police cars, crime scene tape and what appeared to be blood outside the apartment the following morning, adding it was especially unsettling as it happened just days after moving in.
The apartment complex owner called the incident isolated and said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Additionally, the USF Police Department shared resources for those affected by the incident.
“For those who need support, resources are available through the university. Students have access to TimelyCare 24/7 as well as in-person counseling services on campus. Faculty and staff can access the Employee Assistance Program,” the statement read.
