JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – Five firefighters were injured in a major fire that tore through a Jacksonville furniture store this afternoon.
The fire was reported around 1:15 p.m. and started in the Furniture Plus warehouse on North Marine Boulevard. It then spread to the store itself, as smoke was pouring out of the front of the building.
Officials say smoke has spread to the main showroom. From WITN’s drone footage, we can see that part of the roof has collapsed.
Four aerial trucks were pouring water on the fire this afternoon, and around 5:00 p.m., firefighters were breaking out showroom windows so aerial trucks on Marine Boulevard could drench the store with water.
Crews say the fire is now under control, and several fire vehicles have left after battling the blaze all afternoon.

Five firefighters received injuries, according to a city spokeswoman.
As of last night, four of the firefighters were treated and released. Another is still under observation.
No other injuries were reported.
In addition to Jacksonville, fire crews from Camp Lejeune, Back Swamp, Half Moon, Onslow County Fire Rescue, Piney Green, Pumpkin Center, Rhodestown, Richlands, Swansboro, and Southwest responded to the blaze.

Witness Gerald Edwards said he first noticed a small amount of smoke and thought someone nearby was burning something.
“First thing I saw was a little bit of smoke on the far end, looked like they were burning something in the backyard, and then it started getting darker and darker, bigger and bigger, and everybody showed up,” Edwards said.
The store posted on its social media account that everyone is okay and that it plans to provide additional updates when it can.
Furniture Plus’ website says it’s been family-owned since 1978 and that its store is 30,000 square feet.
Jacksonville Fire Chief Tee Tallmon says crews will continue to put out hotspots throughout the evening.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, with crews assessing the extent of damage.
As of 8 p.m., North Marine Boulevard between Onslow Drive and Bell Fork Road has reopened.
